About us Resources and reports Turning Passion Into a Career Through LIFT When Jake* came to the Local Industry Futures Training (LIFT) program, he was working but wanted more than just a job — he wanted a career. Unsure how to take the first steps toward a long-term pathway, Jake sought guidance from the program’s staff. Through one-on-one support from the Training and Employment Coaches (TEC) program, Jake was encouraged to approach a local motorcycle shop to explore opportunities in his area of interest. With a professionally prepared resume and weekly visits to the workshop to show initiative and learn more about the industry, Jake gradually built connections and experience. After two months of persistence and guidance, Jake achieved his goal: he secured an apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic, turning his passion into a promising career. The LIFT program supports young people and community members to identify career goals, build employable skills, and connect with local employers. By providing tailored guidance, practical strategies, and ongoing encouragement, LIFT helps participants take meaningful steps toward a sustainable career path, Narelle Duroux, HBNC’s Client Support Manager said. “Jake’s success highlights the value of determination combined with guidance and support,” Narelle said. “Programs like LIFT can help people not just find work, but build a career they’re passionate about.” *Names have been changed for privacy.
