About us News How Youth Mentoring can turn school life around If it wasn’t for Youth Mentoring, Jeremy’s* life could be very different. His challenging home life – living with a struggling single parent and three siblings – was spilling over into school. He lacked confidence and often had outbursts when things just got to be too much. Put simply, school was somewhere he didn’t want to be. That’s where John* came in. Every student deserves someone in their corner The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is calling on the Fraser Coast community to help change the future for local young people by donating to its vital Youth Mentoring service. READ MORE John, a volunteer with HBNC’s Youth Mentoring Program, stepped in to support, guide and listen to Jeremy. They have been meeting for more than a year now, and the change has been remarkable. Jeremy feels confident at school. He’s building positive connections and reacts calmly to challenging situations. That’s the difference having someone in your corner can make. Right now, there are many young people like Jeremy in Fraser Coast schools. Students who just need someone to believe in them. HBNC’s Youth Mentoring Program pairs students aged 7–17 with trained volunteer mentors who provide guidance, stability, and encouragement —helping them build confidence and hope for the future.
