About us News Guiding lives, building futures: Every student deserves someone in their corner The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is calling on the Fraser Coast community to help change the future for local young people by donating to its vital Youth Mentoring service. Youth Mentoring provides one-to-one mentoring relationships between caring adults and Hervey Bay students aged 7 to 17. These connections help young people develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging at school and beyond. HBNC’s Youth Mentoring Program has supported hundreds of students across the Fraser Coast since it began, matching them with trained volunteer mentors who provide encouragement, stability, and friendship, Sheenah Heinonen, HBNC’s Families, Children and Youth Manager said. “Youth mentoring is about being that trusted person in a young person’s corner — someone who listens, shows up, and helps them believe in their own potential,” Sheenah said. “Every dollar donated helps us train mentors, run school visits, and support these life-changing connections.” Funds raised will go directly toward mentor training, school program materials, and ongoing support for mentor–student matches. “Even a small contribution can make a lasting difference,” Sheenah said. “It costs less than you might think to create a positive, consistent presence in a young person’s life. That investment can change their future.” Donate today To learn more about becoming a mentor or supporting the program, visit www.hbnc.com.au/youth-mentoring-program or contact HBNC on 4194 3000.
