About us News GUIDE TO GIVING BACK: Food relief this Christmas It’s called the season of giving for a reason, and we are always so inspired by the members of our community who look for ways to generously give back over the Christmas period. We know it’s not always easy to find opportunities for volunteering, donating and supporting those in need, so we thought we’d offer up a handy guide for giving back this Christmas. Food relief Food is at the heart of many families’ Christmas celebrations, but it’s something we can easily take for granted. Sadly, there are families in our community who will go without Christmas lunch, and may not be sure where their food will come from. There are some practical ways you can help fill this gap. Our local low-cost grocery provider, We Care 2, always does wonderful work helping fill the pantries of those in need. Consider supporting them this Christmas period, particularly with hamper donations. According to their Facebook page: Each year We Care 2 put together food hampers for people within our community who are struggling with homelessness, DV, cost of living pressures & other crisis situations. If you would like to be a blessing to your community during this time - feel free to drop in food donations to our office at 229 Main Street. You can even organise a collection for your workplace, school, family or friend group! For more information on how you can be involved or if you would like to donate funds towards this initiative (which is tax deductible) please call our office on 4124 0913. Volunteering at Christmas Each year in the lead-up to Christmas, we are overwhelmed by the generosity and willingness to serve on display in our community. LEARN MORE Another way to directly support those in need is by dropping non-perishable food and toiletry items off at The Bless Box Help Yourself Shelf. This is particularly helpful over the Christmas period as the community centre is not staffed during this time, so the proactive generosity of community members makes even more of a difference. Simply place items on the shelves located in the Kindness Garden outside the Hervey Bay Community Centre. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE BLESS BOX
