The Urangan Community Wellness Centre is celebrating Neighbourhood House Week by showcasing the growth and success of its vibrant Food Forest, a community-led initiative that brings people, plants, and pollinators together.

Over the past six months, dedicated volunteers have transformed an unused outdoor space into a flourishing food forest, now serving as a green sanctuary alongside the centre’s wellness programs. As part of this year’s celebration, the Centre is unveiling two new features: an "Air Bee n Bee" bug hotel and a birdhouse nestled near the treehouse inviting native insects and birds to find a home within the growing ecosystem.

"This project has become more than just a garden it's a place where community members connect, learn, and relax," said Tanya Stevenson, CEO of HBNC. "These new additions support local biodiversity and reflect our centre’s values of sustainability, wellbeing, and community care."

Neighbourhood House Week, running from 12 – 18 May, is a national celebration of the vital work neighbourhood and community centres do across Australia. This year’s theme, “Stronger Together”, perfectly reflects the spirit of collaboration seen in the Food Forest’s development.

The centre invites local residents to drop by during the week to explore the forest, meet the volunteers, and learn how to get involved in future workshops and working bees.
