About us News Powerful project launched to break the silence on violence against women The Fraser Coast Clothesline Project, a powerful visual display addressing violence against women, is now open to the public at Gatakers Artspace. As part of this impactful event, the community is invited to experience and participate in a unique, thought-provoking exhibit designed to educate, honour, and promote healing. The Clothesline Project features a display of shirts, each one representing a woman’s experience with violence. Each shirt tells a story, offering a vivid and emotional look into the reality of violence that countless women face. Through these personal accounts, the Clothesline Project aims to break the silence around this issue, encouraging both awareness and dialogue within the Fraser Coast community. Key Goals of the Clothesline Project: Raise awareness about the extent of violence against women, bringing attention to a crisis that affects individuals, families, and communities. Educate the public on the different forms of violence women face, including physical, emotional, and psychological abuse, and provide information on how community members can support victims and work toward prevention. Support healing by offering survivors and those who have lost loved ones a platform to share their stories and find solace within a network of understanding and compassion. Build a network of community support, encouraging the public to connect with local resources dedicated to aiding survivors and combating violence. The Clothesline Project is more than an art display—it’s an invitation to Fraser Coast residents to engage in open conversation, to listen, and to learn. This project helps build a community where everyone can feel safe and supported, no matter their background or experience. All are welcome to Gatakers Artspace from November 25 to December 10 to view the display, reflect, and show support for survivors and families affected by violence. Together, let’s work toward a future free from violence and filled with hope, respect, and resilience. About the Clothesline Project: The Clothesline Project originated in the U.S. in 1990 and has since spread internationally, empowering women and communities to speak out against violence. The Fraser Coast Clothesline Project is part of a global movement to break the silence, encourage healing, and promote understanding through shared stories and community solidarity.
