New school-readiness program launched through Play With Your Kids

The Play With Your Kids team is excited to announce the launch of a new Transitioning to Kindergarten/School Readiness Program, beginning on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Designed to support young children in preparing for the next step in their educational journey, this program will be integrated into regular Monday playgroup sessions and led by experienced educator Mrs Robyn.

Running every Monday from 9:00 am to 11:15 am, the program will be split into two segments. From 9:00 am to 10:30 am, children and families will enjoy a standard playgroup session. Following this, Mrs Robyn will guide the transitioning program from 10:30 am to 11:15 am.

Mrs Robyn’s curriculum focuses on vocabulary development, encompassing key elements such as comparative language, model language, receptive language, and expressive language. This ensures children develop essential communication skills that will help them thrive in a school environment.

The program will also emphasise other crucial developmental areas, including:

Physical development, particularly gross motor skills
Awareness of self and self-help skills
Cognitive development and fostering curiosity skills

Sheenah Heinonen, HBNC’s Families, Children and Youth Manager, said the program would be invaluable for little ones getting ready to start kindergarten or Prep.

"We are thrilled to offer this comprehensive program to ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten for our community's young learners," Sheenah said.

"By incorporating both language and physical development, we are preparing children for the diverse demands of school life."

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring their children along to the Monday sessions to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
