Find Your Spark After Sunset at the Neighbourhood Night Studio

Hervey Bay residents are being invited to “find their spark after sunset” with the launch of a new after-hours learning program designed to bring creativity, connection, and fun back into weeknights.

The Neighbourhood Night Studio, an initiative of the HBNC Local Learning Network, offers a relaxed and welcoming space for locals to explore new skills from art and filmmaking to environmental sustainability, starting a side hustle, and sensory processing and neuroscience workshops.

Held on Tuesday evenings at the Community Centre, the program features a range of 1–2 hour creative and practical sessions running at various times between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. All sessions are beginner-friendly, hands-on, and focused on fun rather than assessments.

Tanya Stevenson, CEO for HBNC said, “We wanted to create something for everyone, a place where people could reconnect, learn something new, and rediscover the joy of creating”. “We often talk about lifelong learning and this is it in action. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or exploring AI tools for your business, there’s something here for everyone.”

The program commences on 6 January, with a four-week Starting a Side Hustle course. From this date, Introduction to Art and Introduction to Protecting Our Environment will also run, with participants able to enrol in individual sessions rather than committing to the full series. From 13 January, Introduction to Digital Spark begins and is also available as individual session enrolments, alongside Introduction to Early Years Child Development, which runs across three sessions. A four week Filmmaking program begins on 20 January.

To further support inclusion and accessibility, the program will provide free dinner and on-site childcare, making it easier for parents and carers to attend, slow down, and enjoy dedicated time for creativity, connection, and wellbeing. Dinner will be served between 5:30 and 6:00pm each night and is proudly sponsored by Domino’s, helping remove common barriers to participation and ensuring the program is welcoming for the whole community.

The Neighbourhood Night Studio is part of the Local Learning Network’s mission to make education local, affordable, and community-led.
