A new event hit the Fraser Coast this weekend, and it could be the start of something big for the local youth music scene.

HBNC’s Reconnect Youth Service proudly hosted Vibe @ The Hive on Saturday, June 28.

It was a night of live music and fun activities aimed at creating connection amongst the region’s young people.

About 150 people showed up at The Neighbourhood Hive too hear the sounds of local acts including Stix & Stringz, Unbleached, CRAIG and Wallace McPherson.

Reconnect youth worker, Josh Sirovy, said it was a chance for young people to come together in a place just for them.

“We saw young people who have trouble engaging at school or in other social situations getting involved and having a great time connecting with others,” Josh said.

Josh said a music event was the ideal environment for young people to connect.

“Music offers a chance for self-expression, and a shared interest,” he said.

“We had bands from local schools performing, which was something everyone could be proud of.”

Moving forward, there are plans for more Vibe @ The Hive events, with a goal to establish the region’s live music scene for young people.

Josh hopes more younger musos will step up to perform.

“Music is not just a creative outlet – it’s a great opportunity to use different parts of our brains while building confidence,” he said.

“Vibe @ The Hive also offered a chance to try different skills like photography and podcasting, so there really is something for everyone.”
