This is a tribute to individuals who work in the non-profit sector.

It emphasises the passions, resilience, and selflessness of non-profit workers, who face various challenges such as limited resources, long hours, and emotional strain.

Despite these difficulties, non-profit workers remain committed to creating meaningful change in their communities and the world.

With open, servant-like hearts, they dedicate their lives to issues like domestic violence, homelessness, mental health, people with disabilities and other services.

You can count on them to strive to achieve the best outcomes for their clients and the community.

For them, doing their job is gratitude enough. They don’t crave the spotlight.

Serving their clients and the community is their focus.

Waking up and making a difference is what matters.

Words from Christian Berechree, the Operations Manager of HBNC

What made take you this role?

I have always wanted to work for a purpose-driven organisation, using my skills and experience to support people and make a difference. When this role came up in 2020, I saw it as a unique chance to take my varied professional background and focus it in a new way.

I was working as a journalist and newspaper editor in the years leading up to taking this job, so it was a significant career change, but it felt very natural once I got started. I am a values-driven person, and my skillset and professional experience equipped me well for the role.

Why do you do it? What is your motivation?

Having been with HBNC for four years now, I can confidently say this organisation is making a real, genuine difference in the community. It is such a joy to work somewhere that has direct and immediate impacts on the lives of the people we serve.

As a marketer, having the opportunity to tell the stories of the work we do lights me up and keeps me going. Even the less “exciting” work, like workplace health and safety or maintenance, is all part of working towards are our mission of creating connected communities. It is a true honour to be part of this great local organisation.

There are many stories of people who have chosen this path.

Either earlier, or later in their lives, they seek a career with purpose.

Also, don’t forget the countless volunteers involved in this sector, who are want to give back to the community.

Speaking from experience, they are the salt of the earth with blood worth bottling.

This article is dedicated to a sector with pure heart, and to the people I know professionally and personally.

Hail to the not-for-profit worker.

Thank you to those organisations who are making a difference in the community.

This article is for you.
