Free community workshops are hitting the nail on the head when it comes to teaching practical, money-saving skills to Fraser Coast residents.

Tool School, delivered in partnership with Project Mateship at The Neighbourhood Hive, has already proven a hit with locals eager to build confidence, save money and learn hands-on skills for life.

The six-week series of free workshops covers everything from power tools and timber framing to car maintenance, plaster repairs, basic plumbing and electrical safety. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn in a fun, supportive environment.

Hervey Bay local Narelle Duroux attended the workshops  and said the sessions had been a great learning experience.

“The atmosphere at Tool School was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming,” Narelle said.

“It’s such a great space at The Neighbourhood Hive, and the hands-on learning made it really engaging for all ages.

“Our instructor Brady was approachable, knowledgeable and passionate about sharing his skills. He made sure no question felt silly, which really encouraged everyone to get involved.

“What I really appreciated was that we weren’t just learning how to use tools. We were learning how to use them safely, the difference between trade and home tools, and how these skills can be applied in everyday life.

“It’s practical, it’s empowering, and it’s something I’d recommend to anyone.”

Tanya Stevenson, HBNC CEO, said Tool School offered benefits beyond the skills learnt in the workshops.

“With a nationwide shortage in the trades and rising household costs, Tool School was developed to provide an opportunity for community members to gain useful skills that can lead to savings, confidence and even new career interests," Tanya said.

Workshops run Wednesday nights from 6pm to 7:30pm at The Neighbourhood Hive (184 Boat Harbour Drive, Pialba), and there’s still time to register for the remaining sessions:
