About us News Mouth-watering food with a side of support for Youth Mentoring When it comes to supporting vital community services, every little bit counts. That is the philosophy of Hervey Bay business owner, Hayley Yigit. Hayley and her team at Olive Turkish Restaurant, Torquay, have embraced the spirit of community connection by partnering with HBNC’s Youth Mentoring Program. Throughout November and December, $5 from every table sale at the restaurant will be donated to the program, which matches volunteer mentors with Hervey Bay students needing support. Hayley, who has worked in education and social work, hopes to raise at least $5000 for the program. “Coming from a teaching background, it is very important to work alongside them because they are our future,” Hayley said. “As a business, I believe we can do this. We believe every small amount will count and can change someone’s life. “It is an honour as a local business owner to be part of a great program.” Sheenah Heinonen, HBNC’s Families, Children & Youth Manager, thanked Hayley and her team for their generous support. “Youth Mentoring is fully funded by community donations and support, so this partnership will make a major difference,” Sheenah said. “We are so grateful to Hayley and the team at Olive Turkish Restaurant for investing in the next generation.” To support this initiative, simply dine at Olive Turkish Restaurant for lunch or dinner. You can also donate directly to Youth Mentoring online. Donate today About Youth Mentoring HBNC’s Youth Mentoring program supports school students (7-17 years old) who are having trouble at school by pairing them with a trained Volunteer Mentor. This referral-based program involves the mentors visiting students one to two times per week at school and providing support by listening, assisting with goal settings and helping them to recognise their strengths. Mentors then develop their strengths and act as a sounding board for their ideas and problems in positive, constructive and respectful ways to help them achieve their goals in all aspects of life. We are always recruiting new mentors that have a keen interest in helping students in this program. If you are interested in giving back to the community and volunteering as a mentor, you will require a Blue Card, and you will need to complete some simple online training. Please call the office or visit our centre to find out more.
