Meet Michaela Davis - Events & Local Learning Network Team Leader

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a proud mum of two girls and have called Hervey Bay home since 2018. My career has always centred around community, events, and connection, and I thrive in roles where I can bring people together, create opportunities, and support others to grow. I also have a strong interest in women’s mental health, and one of my long-term goals is to become an ADHD coach to help others navigate life with confidence and clarity.

My CliftonStrengths really reflect how I show up in work and in life. With Empathy and Developer, I naturally connect with people, see potential in others, and enjoy encouraging their growth. My Positivity and Adaptability help me stay optimistic and flexible, even in challenging situations, while Connectedness keeps me focused on the bigger picture and the belief that the work we do has a meaningful impact on the community

What is a quick summary of your professional background?
I have over 17 years of experience across community development, local government, vocational education, and event management. I’ve coordinated everything from large civic celebrations and regional expos to small community-led workshops. My career has also included education roles where I developed school-to-work programs and community training initiatives, as well as running my own events business. Alongside professional roles, I’ve volunteered in local clubs like Wide Bay Gymnastics, where I’ve helped with governance and strategic development.

What drew you to work with Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre?
HBNC’s focus on belonging, learning, and leadership really resonates with me. I love that the Centre provides practical support while also empowering people to grow and connect. I’m also drawn to the Centre’s positive and vibrant culture, it’s the kind of environment where I’d love to surround myself with passionate people, continue to learn and grow, and better myself.

How do you see your role making a difference in the lives of the community’s most vulnerable?
I see this role as a way to remove barriers and create opportunities. Whether that’s through designing workshops that build confidence and skills, supporting volunteers, or hosting community events that foster connection, I can help make services more accessible and engaging. My strength is in listening, adapting, and finding creative ways to connect people with the support and networks they need.

What’s one thing you hope to see happen or change for our community?
I’d love to see more young people supported into the workforce by developing practical, work-ready skills, and help the wider community regain valuable life skills that used to be passed on through human connection. In today’s world, technology has created incredible opportunities, but it has also led to disconnection. I want to help bridge that gap so families, individuals, and young people in Hervey Bay feel confident, connected, and equipped to thrive.
