About us News MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Kyla Marmara Tell us a bit about yourself I’m someone who’s passionate about making a genuine difference in people’s lives. I bring both lived experience and empathy into the work I do, and I pride myself on being approachable, supportive, and adaptable. Outside of work, I’m a psychology student and a proud pet mum to two dogs and two cats. I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, crafting, and continuing to learn and grow personally and professionally. What is a quick summary of your professional background? I have over 12 years of experience in sales and administration, with the last couple of years focused on the disability and community services sector. My background has given me strong skills in communication, problem-solving, and supporting people in achieving their goals. I’ve worked closely with vulnerable individuals, including those facing mental health challenges, housing instability, and complex life circumstances. What drew you to work at HBNC? I was drawn to the Neighbourhood Centre because of its values and commitment to inclusivity, community support, and real-world impact. I wanted to be part of a team that genuinely cares and actively works to improve lives, not just through services, but through connection and compassion. How do you see your role making a difference in the lives of the community’s most vulnerable? I believe my role allows me to be a consistent, trustworthy point of contact for those who may be feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or unheard. Whether it’s connecting someone with the right services or simply being there to listen, I know the little things can make the biggest difference. By helping people navigate life’s challenges with dignity and respect, I hope to be a source of stability and empowerment. What’s one thing you hope to see happen or change for our community? I hope to see a community where people feel connected, safe, and supported regardless of their circumstances. I’d love to see more collaboration between services, less stigma around seeking help, and a stronger sense of belonging for everyone who walks through our doors. Learn more about LIFT
