HBNC is proud to introduce Connect With Friends, a new initiative designed to bring people together and strengthen social connections in the local community.

Through a series of welcoming events, Connect With Friends provides opportunities for meaningful interactions over food, coffee, tea, and engaging activities.

The initiative brings together several existing HBNC events under one unified banner:

  • Lunch With Friends A $10 meal held at the Urangan Community Wellness Centre, with delicious food cooked by volunteers.
  • Chat With Friends Aimed at newcomers to town, this event focuses on conversation and connection, helping people build social networks.
  • Culture With Friends – A series of special events showcasing different cultures as part of HBNC’s multicultural programs, celebrating diversity and inclusion.
  • Bowls With Friends A monthly afternoon of indoor carpet bowls, designed to promote active living and socialising in a fun, friendly setting.

Each of these events is designed to offer a friendly, inclusive space where participants can build friendships and support networks. The initiative particularly aims to support older community members seeking companionship and new residents looking to establish local connections.

Maureen Hall, Acting CEO of HBNC, emphasised the importance of the initiative.

“Social connection is vital for well-being, yet loneliness remains a significant issue, particularly for older adults and those new to the area. Connect With Friends ensures that everyone in our community has a welcoming place to belong, share stories, and create lasting friendships,” Maureen said.

Christian Berechree, HBNC’s Operations Manager, highlighted the initiative’s role in strengthening community ties.

“Bringing these events together under the Connect With Friends banner allows us to create greater awareness and accessibility. Whether it’s through a shared meal, a casual chat, or a fun activity, our goal is to foster meaningful connections and a sense of belonging for all participants,” Christian said.

Connect With Friends events run throughout the year, providing flexible opportunities for community members to engage in ways that suit them best.
