A local church and student movement have joined forces to make a meaningful impact on the Hervey Bay community.

The Syrian Orthodox Student Movement Australia (SOSMA), in collaboration with St Behanam JSOC Hervey Bay, recently organised a donation drive to collect non-perishable food and toiletries for HBNC’s Bless Box.

The drive was led by Johan, a passionate high school student and SOSMA member, who saw the Bless Box as an opportunity to give back to the community.

Johan’s efforts were supported by his fellow SOSMA members and the congregation of St Behanam JSOC Hervey Bay, with the initiative culminating in a substantial donation of essential items for individuals and families doing it tough.

St Behanam’s pastor, Rev. Fr. Jobil Yoyaky, emphasised the importance of helping those in need and expressed pride in the collaborative efforts of the church and youth movement.

HBNC Operations Manager, Christian Berechree, praised the initiative.

“The Bless Box relies on the generosity of groups like SOSMA and St Behanam JSOC to provide vital support for people facing hardship,” Christian said.

“Johan and his team have shown how young people can drive meaningful change in their community, and we’re incredibly grateful for their efforts.”

The Bless Box, located at the Hervey Bay Community Centre, 22 Charles Street, Pialba, is a community resource offering free essential items to those in need.
Donations are critical to its ongoing success, and HBNC welcomes contributions of non-perishable food and small toiletry items.
