The next generation of community leaders is stepping forward through the Social Spark Lab, a youth-led social innovation initiative delivered by Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC).

Delivered in partnership with Volunteering Queensland, the Social Spark Lab is bringing hands-on social innovation training into local schools, empowering young people to identify real community challenges and design practical, youth-led solutions.

The program will culminate in a Youth Pitch Event on 29 April, where participating students will present their ideas to a panel of community leaders and funders. Up to $20,000 in seed funding is available for youth-led initiatives, thanks to the continued support of Bendigo Community Bank, Fraser Coast Mates, and Red Bike Adventures.

Tanya Stevenson, CEO of HBNC said the program is about more than pitching ideas. “We’re helping young people build confidence, problem-solving skills and a sense of community. They’re learning that their ideas matter and that they can genuinely shape their communities.”

Chloe Lhotka and Summer Knight will be delivering the program to young people across the Fraser Coast to support the growing shift toward youth-led solutions. Chloe said, “Young people see the world differently. When we give them the tools, trust and resources, they don’t just imagine change, they create it.”
