HBNC Receives “A Hand Up” Grant to Support Volley for Youth Charity Carnival The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is excited to announce it was awarded a $1,000 grant through the Promotion Products "A Hand Up" program in December. The funding will help HBNC enhance the upcoming Volley for Youth Charity Carnival, a flagship event raising funds to support its Youth Mentoring Program. Thanks to the grant, HBNC has received custom-branded sunglasses for participants, as well as a professional media wall backdrop. These resources will not only elevate the carnival experience but will also be used at future events, creating long-term benefits for the organisation and the young people it supports. The "A Hand Up" program is designed to provide practical support to grassroots organisations across Australia. By awarding small, targeted grants, Promotion Products enables local groups to deliver meaningful initiatives that make a real difference in their communities. More information about the program is available on their website. A Hand Up - Promotion Products. “The support from Promotion Products is incredible,” said Tanya Stevenson, CEO at HBNC. “This grant allows us to enhance the Volley for Youth Charity Carnival and provide a fun, vibrant experience for participants while raising vital funds for our Youth Mentoring Program. We’re truly grateful.” The Youth Mentoring Program provides school students aged 7–17 with consistent guidance from trained volunteer mentors. Mentors visit students at school once or twice a week, offering encouragement, helping them set goals, and supporting them through challenges at school and in life. The program strengthens confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging for young people who may face difficulties at home, school, or in the community. The Volley for Youth Charity Carnival will bring together the Fraser Coast’s community for an action-packed day of volleyball, games, and community engagement. Funds raised will directly contribute to Youth Mentoring, helping more young people access consistent support and guidance from caring mentors. Research underlines the importance of programs like this. According to the Fraser Coast Youth Survey 2025, young people identified cost of living pressures, safety, and mental health concerns as their top challenges. At the same time, they highlighted a need for more safe, engaging community activities and spaces. Initiatives like Volley for Youth and mentoring programs respond directly to these needs by creating opportunities for connection, growth, and well-being. HBNC encourages other grassroots organisations to consider applying for A Hand Up grants, noting that small contributions can deliver real, lasting impact. The centre extends its heartfelt thanks to Promotion Products for backing youth initiatives and helping make the Fraser Coast a stronger, more connected community.
