HBNC’s Resilient Connections program is designed to help older adults in Hervey Bay strengthen social connections, reduce loneliness, and build confidence in disaster preparedness.

Through engaging meet-ups, events, interactive workshops, and peer support networks, participants will be supported to form meaningful and enjoyable engagements while learning practical strategies to stay safe in emergencies.

Who we can help

Resilient Connections provides opportunities for learning for older people while also developing social connections.

Older adults are often disproportionately affected by natural disasters, as mobility issues, chronic health conditions, and reliance on in-home care services can hinder their ability to prepare and respond effectively.

Our focus is on strengthening social networks through community programs, education, and supporting older residents stay connected, improve their health, and enhance their ability to withstand disasters.

The program is open to anyone over the age of 60 or anyone who may identify as vulnerable, socially isolated or lonely.

How we can help

  • Monthly Lunch n Learn Events – a monthly social and learning session over a delicious meal. Meet new people, hear from local experts and leave with new knowledge about healthy living, disaster preparedness and other interesting topics.
  • Chatty Cafes – a no-pressure, casual gathering where you can meet and chat, find out what is happening from HBNC staff and connect with local groups, clubs and information.
  • Support Groups – small group meetings facilitated by a trained counsellor, aimed at bringing together people experiencing similar life experiences to share and support each other.
