Primary students are currently learning about their local community in HASS. Students created a 'map' of Hervey Bay that included place that they love to go. They used a combination of techniques including blending colours using brushes to create the land and the sea and drawing their house as well as other features of their local environment. As part of this process, students selected their favourite colours to print houses in their neighbourhood using different shapes.
Spencer loves to draw. In the ocean, Spencer drew a sea turtle, starfish ,shark, basking shark and ocean sunfish. He also drew his house and other places he likes to go to. He said, "I went to Hervey Bay beach. It's a new place, a new house to live in. My house has stairs. In Hervey Bay, I go to the pet store, supermarket, McDonalds, KFC." Spencer also printed brown houses.
Xavier printed black houses and painted the land. While he painted, he talked about Hervey Bay. "I live in Hervey Bay. In Hervey Bay, I go to the cinema and McDonalds. I like going down the slide. The slides are fun. At the playground there is swings and an excavator where you dig up the sand. And there's a pier. It's basically a wood pier at the train park."
Michael loves his home and the train park. He printed red houses and drew a fish in the ocean.
Lachlan helped to paint the land of Hervey Bay 'green'. He loved dotting and blending different shades of green together.
Joel printed yellow houses. He drew our school and Kawungan too.
Josef printed blue houses and painted the blue water. He had so much fun using the brushes to spread the paint. He drew his home and the road and told his teachers stories about riding his push bike down the hill near his home. He likes to go to the beach and play on the monkey bars at the park.
