Dementia-Friendly Community Checklist: Supporting an Inclusive Fraser Coast

At the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported and included, especially those living with dementia.

This Dementia-Friendly Community Checklist, created by the Fraser Coast Dementia Alliance, is a practical and compassionate tool designed to help local businesses and community organisations understand how welcoming and accessible they are for people living with dementia.

This easy to use guide explains what dementia is, why dementia friendly practices matter, and the many benefits of creating an environment where all community members can thrive. It also offers a simple checklist for assessing your space, along with helpful tips for improving communication, reducing sensory stressors, and supporting individuals who may be feeling confused, overwhelmed, or lost.

By using this resource, your organisation can strengthen its connection to the community, enhance customer experiences, and play an important role in building a kinder, more inclusive Fraser Coast.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference, one small change at a time.
