Why are we seeing Flying Foxes in Hervey Bay?

Join us at The Neighbourhood Centre with educator John Parsons for an engaging & educational workshop that uncovers the incredible ecological role these tiny nocturnal mammals play in our environment.

Through a visual presentation, hands-on learning and real-life examples, you’ll explore:

  • The unique biology and behaviour of microbats

  • Their crucial role in natural pest control

  • Local species found across the Fraser Coast

  • Conservation challenges

  • Practical ways you can support bat-friendly habitats at home and in the community

This interactive session is perfect for nature lovers, backyard gardeners, families, educators, and anyone curious about our fascinating native wildlife.

Neighbourhood Night Studio is a relaxed, welcoming after-hours creative space where adults can explore art, learn new skills, and connect with others in a supportive, no-pressure environment. Running weekly in the early evening, the program is designed for beginners and non-artists, with an emphasis on process over perfection and people over performance. To remove barriers and make participation easy, sessions are low-cost, wheelchair accessible, and supported with clear, encouraging guidance. To further support inclusion, free dinner and $5 on-site supervised children's activities will be provided, making it easier for parents and carers to attend, slow down, and enjoy time for creativity, connection, and wellbeing.
