CD101 Introduction to Community Development

Are you passionate about making a real difference in our community, but want to make sure your efforts are truly community-led? Whether you are a frontline worker, a local leader, a volunteer, or just someone who wants to drive positive change right here on the Fraser Coast, this workshop is for you.

CD101 - Introduction to Community Development is a practical, engaging, and deeply human two-hour introduction to the foundations of community development.

Instead of traditional top-down approaches, this session explores how we can move away from "doing for" our communities and shift toward genuinely "working with" them. We will dive into real-world examples, share stories, and reflect on how we can foster true community ownership.

What we will explore together:

• The foundations of community-led practice: Understanding what it means to let the community lead the way.

• Strengthening connection: Practical ways to build dialogue, deep connection, and active participation.

• Supporting local action: How to spark community ownership so projects thrive from the ground up.

• Real-world storytelling: Learning through shared experiences, reflection, and practical examples you can start using straight away.

This workshop is completely free and is perfect for beginners who are brand new to the space, as well as seasoned workers or volunteers looking to refresh their practice and reconnect with the "why" behind their work.
